Happy Turn of Events
I've posted regularly about the African elephant known as Waza II. (This is the elephant that seriously injured Dr. Martin Tchamba as he and NC Zoo veterinarian Dr. Mike Loomis were conducting studies aimed at aiding Waza II and the herd she "dominates".)
Field Trip Earth, in monitoring her movements, among other Cameroonian elephants, reported the concern that she might have been poached or, at best, separated from her collar. (It was found that she simply had not moved far, as water and food were plentiful where, and when, she was sending satellite signals that indicated no movement.)
We now know of an event that also may have caused Waza II to want to stay put as best she could. Waza II has given birth to a calf!
