One Big Jogger
Anchorage's Alaska Zoo has built a 16,000 pound treadmill to offer exercise to Maggie, their sole elephant.
The NC Zoo plans for seven acres of exhibit, larger holding and exercise areas (off exhibit) and larger social groupings of African elephants should, I think, do more for the NC individual elephant. (Currently, a smaller grouping, on 4 acres, plus smaller holding and exercise areas, are still better served, I feel.) The improved NC Zoo elephant facilities should be in place in late 2006 or early 2007.
