Another Sustainability Award
NC Zoo education professional and librarian Bob Langston received the NC Department of Environment and Natural Resources' Sustainability Award for individual small project for his work in cell phone recycling through the NC Zoo.
Bob has led the Zoo's collection of 1,865 cell phones for reuse or recycling. The phones contain harzardous materials that can end up in land fills and leech into water reserves.
The NC Zoo gets $1 for each recycled phone. The money helps Bigoti Schools in Uganda, partners with the Zoo and NC schools in an exchange of information (and interest) about wildlife and environmental issues.
