Duck Decline Danger
The prairie pothole region of the Upper Midwest (the Dakotas, western Minnesota, Iowa, northeastern Montana and three Canadian provinces) produces 50 to 80 percent of the continent's ducks, aided by 5 million small ponds. Warming trends could cut the duck population in half as soon as 2050 according to a study published in "BioScience". (Link)
