National Treasure

The Sichuan takin is considered a national treasure in China. Red River Zoo, Fargo, ND, is considering its baby takin, born March 31, a state treasure. There are just 43 of the big, hoofed creatures in just 11 zoos in North America, the Associated Press reports. (Link)

The little takin is named Quami, Mandarin for "with all one's strength". It weighed about 40 pounds at birth and will grow to 800 or more pounds.
