Baby Elephant "a Character"
The St. Louis Zoo's new baby elephant is learning from her mother and other adult females in the herd. (Link)
"She's going to be a character, I think," said Martha Fischer, the zoo's curator of mammals. "She will call out to make the herd run to see what is the matter with her. She ran up and tried to head-butt her sister, Rani. But her favorite thing to do is nurse." (Wally Spiers, Belleville News Democrat)
"At one point the baby used its trunk to poke at the trunk of Donna, one of the herd, and Donna explained "no," raising one front foot and gently bopping the baby on its head."
