Shooting "Sickens" CEO
The CEO of Lowry Park Zoo (Tampa, FL) shot and killed a Sumatran tiger that was charging the zoo's veterinarian after escaping, CNN reports.
The tiger had been shot with a tranquilizer dart by the veterinarian just before it charged.
"I feel sick to my stomach," [Lex] Salisbury, head of the Lowry Park Zoo in Tampa, told the St. Petersburg Times. He said he felt he had to shoot to protect the veterinarian."
Lowry Park Zoo will co-host the upcoming annual conference of the American Zoo & Aquarium (AZA) Association in Tampa. I will be among those attending the late-September conference. (The loss of the very rare tiger, under these circumstances, will be on the minds of most as they attend conference sessions and "papers" aimed at saving wildlife and wild places.)
