Elephant Intros Go Well
The introductions of the NC Zoo's newer African elephants are going well General Curator Steve Miller reported this morning.
While Samantha, the elephant received from Canada, has been aggressive toward the nice, new, $3 million barn she will share with six other African elephants, she has been quite submissive in her first visits with another, new female - Tonga and her daughter Batir. (Samantha can regularly be heard rattling the huge metal doors of the new elephant facility, even from the distant visitor walkways of the Watani Grasslands.)
On a Zoo tour yesterday, I found our long-time threesome (Rafiki, Little Diamond and C'Sar) in the north exhibit and the new male (Artie) in the south exhibit. This left the three mentioned above back in the exercise yards for those introductions.
