Please Don't Feed the Animals!
This NC Zoo ostrich was in great distress recently due to that bulge in its neck.
A visitor tossed or (I hope) accidentally dropped an apple into the exhibit area. The ostrich got the unknown (to it) food item half way down. It was observed struggling mightily to dislodge the major obstruction.
Fortunately, it succeeded in expelling the apple after a time.
The zoo keepers passed the photo on to get across the important message above.
Even our NC acorns can cause illness or death in some of our exotic wildlife. Some of them will even eat coins and other small metal and plastic items dropped or tossed near them.
