"Julie at 32 years young is the second oldest giraffe in the world, as far as anyone knows!
"This is our new [NC Zoo] Giraffe feeding and interaction exhibit. There are some issues getting the giraffes to come and get some browse from the keepers. I am told that from their point of view the new deck resembles a shipping crate/cage and so they are not real trusting as of yet. (and who can blame them!)
"I was there for about 30 minutes and Julie stood watching the entire time. She would inch a little closer and then back away. She really looked like she wanted to come over but was just not real sure!!
"This will open to the public Saturday, June 6, 2009."
