An Early Exit
Dr. Mike has referred to mysterious group decisions in reporting today that there will be no African elephant collared in Cameroon on the winter 2011 visit of the NC Zoo/WWF research team.
It is obvious that NC Zoo lead veterinarian Dr. Mike Loomis was of a different mind than the group. He, diplomatically, indicates that some discussions will follow about this "early exit" from Mt. Cameroon, before he can tell more:
"There is a long story behind the decision to leave Mount Cameroon early...the bottom line is that we are all very disappointed that we were unable to collar an elephant on Mount Cameroon. What's especially frustrating is that we were seeing elephants every day at Crater Lakes..."

Russ,
That is truly sad that Dr. Loomis has to leave Mt. Cameroon early.
I was hoping that his team would be able to collar an elephant this trip. Hope they will be able to collar one though on their upcoming June trip.

His luck has got to improve, Bob! He did have a long run of success, but these last few trips have been tough.
