"Fingers Crossed"

"The German specialist reproduction team were on [North Carolina Zoological] Park last week. Although only two of our four youngest female rhinos were planned for insemination, all four turned out to be close to ovulating and so all of them were inseminated.

"Although there have been five successful white rhino A.I.s leading to pregnancies globally, none have occurred in the U.S. We are keeping our fingers crossed!" [Zoo Director David M. Jones, senior staff notes, 6/1/11]
