It's Complicated

Kabul Zoo is thriving.

The NC Zoo Society and NC Zoo Director David M. Jones are pleased that annual "attendance was 600,000" and that a US A.I.D. grant has provided Kabul Zoo with an expansion plan created by "Jon Coe, one of the world's best-known zoo designers." (They played major roles in getting the Afghan zoo to those points.)

Director Jones and, it appears, Coe, however, are not pleased that Kabul's "mayor, Mohammed Younas Nawandish, a short, mustachioed, wildly popular buzzsaw of a man dubbed "The Builder of Kabul[,]"wants to exhibit species for which his local zoo might struggle to care...over time.
